Residencies

Artnow International offers various residency opportunities to artists, curators, and art magazines. The residents are hosted in a contemporary loft located in the SOMA district of San Francisco.

  • ARTIST RESIDENCY: In collaboration with Kadist Art Foundation and the French American Cultural Society, a foreign artist is invited every year to a four month residency. This residency concludes with an exhibition of his/her work, possibly including work commissioned to be produced during the stay in San Francisco. The 2010 artist residents’ exhibition is hosted by the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
  • CURATORIAL RESIDENCY: In cooperation with Bay Area art institutions, curatorial residents are hosted for a period between two and four months, during research and development of an exhibition or significant program.
  • MAGAZINE RESIDENCY: Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, ArtNow will host a different international art magazine for a one month residency in San Francisco. Facilitating introductions to local artists, writers and relevant histories, ArtNow will support each magazine’s research toward the production of a “San Francisco issue,” to be distributed locally to Bay Area booksellers and magazine stands, in addition to the established distribution network of the magazine.

Fellowships

In a unique initiative between Artnow International, the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art, and CCA’s Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice, Artnow’s 101 Curatorial Fellowship aims at broadening the interpretation and dissemination of the 101 Collection. Graduating students from the CCA’s Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice are invited to apply for the Fellowship by submitting proposals for an exhibition of works in the 101 Collection, to be presented in the Wattis Institute’s galleries over the following year. This Fellowship enables a student to spend a third year at CCA, realize their first curated project in a public art institution, and conduct research around the artists and artworks featured in the 101 Collection.

ArtNow also invites one Bay Area artist every year for a residency in Paris, hosted by Kadist Art Foundation. Farmer and Kantor both represented in the 101 collection.

  • 2010-2011: Geoffrey Farmer
  • 2009-2010: Jordan Kantor
